free plans: how to make a
Blind Spot Display
Basic Description This project exploits a fascinating phenomenon of our vision: the blind spot. There is a spot in each eye that lacks the ability to function like the rest of the eye - it cannot supply visual data to your brain. Under normal circumstances, the information collected by the other eye fills in the missing area, but under the proper conditions, the blind spot becomes apparent. Making the simple display with glow-in-the-dark paint and positioning it near a bed allows for a surprisingly fun activity while falling asleep. Read on for more information and the simple plan.

step:         3

The final step is actually create the display. Decide where you would like to put it. You can position it above a doorway, at the end of a hall or in a closet. Our favorite place is above a bed; falling asleep playing with one's blind spots is really fun. Remember that the distance between the dots is determined by how far you will be away when you are viewing the display; the further you are away from the dots, the further they have to be apart. Also keep in mind, the different people's blind spots are in slightly different places. Test your display with small pieces of colored tape or push-pins. Once you have the distances right, you are ready to paint them in. Using masking tape, mask off two shapes as shown on the right. Paint, and remove the tape. Thats it!
