complico paper folding puzzle free plans: how to make the
Complico Paper Folding Puzzle
Basic Description

watch the
animated intro
'Complico' means to fold together in Latin, and that is exactly what you will do with this simple but ingenious project. After quickly printing and preparing any of the many puzzles that we have provided, you are ready to try and solve them. Beware, however, the difficulty varies from joyfully simple to satisfyingly tricky to devilishly complex! This is a perfect game to fold up and keep in your pocket so that is ready to play whenever you have some spare time.

step:           4

Rules. The object is to fold the puzzle along the fold lines so that the solution is spelled from top to bottom or vice versa. Tucking the paper in pockets that develop is allowed, but tearing the paper is not. Note that each folded panel represents the same letter, front and back.
The best way to understand the rules is to solve the easiest puzzle:

step 4a

To solve the 'creations' puzzle, hold it so that you are looking at the front of the puzzle with with the C panel in the upper left corner.
step 4a

step 4b

Fold the bottom row (S, A and E) forward. The bottom row should now be upside-down: E, A and S from left to right. If your puzzle does not have this layout, you may have made an error orienting the paper in the printer; please return to step 1 and confirm that you printed the puzzle properly.
step 4b

step 4c

Fold the current bottom row (E, A and S) backward. Now you should only see C, I and O from left to right.
step 4c

step 4d

Fold the O panel forward which results in C and S from left to right.
step 4d

step 4e

Finally, the S panel gets folded backward which puts the C panel on top to solve the puzzle. Check the panels to confirm that the resulting fold spells the word 'creations' from one end to the other. Congratulations, you've solved your first complico puzzle, but beware, it gets much more challenging as you move onto other puzzles.
step 4e
In the 'creations' puzzle, all the folds were straightforward, but the more difficult puzzles that we have provided below involve more complicated tucks. Also, the words will have repeat letters. 'Creations' for example, has only one instance of each letter; there is only one C, one R etc. 'Evergreen', however, has four E and two R panels: it becomes difficult to determine which one needs to go where.
Some puzzles, especially the more complicated ones, have more than one solution; if you find a simpler solution to one of the puzzles, please let us know.
